Monday Musings #3 – Buying Books for the Holidays

Hosted by Should Be Reading.

This week’s musing asks…

Will you be buying books for the holidays, this year? If so, for whom, and why?

This year I will only be buying 1 book.  It’s for my mom for Christmas and it’s a photographic history of the town that we live in.  It looks pretty cool actually, the creators of the book took old historical photographs of our town and then added a picture of what is currently in said location.  I’m looking forward to it.  We’re pretty big history buffs here at our house so it should go over big.

Guest Review ~ Kiss Crush Collide by Christina Meredith

I’d like to take the time to thank Jamie from The Eclectic Bookshelf for stopping by and taking the time to guest review Kiss Crush Collide by Christina Meredith.

Kiss Crush CollideTitle: Kiss Crush Collide
Author: Christina Meredith
Series: N/A
Release Date: December 27, 2011
Reviewed Format: ARC

Synopsis:

Leah has the life most high school girls would kill for—popularity, glowing grades, a rich, athletic boyfriend. So why does she feel like she can’t breathe? And why can’t she stop thinking about the boy from the country club? The one who isn’t her boyfriend, the one that her mother would never, ever approve of, the one that her perfect older sisters would never, ever look at twice. The one who is always looking back at her. Irresistible attraction, smoldering glances, the bad boy and the good girl—Kiss Crush Collide has everything that a steamy forbidden romance should, and then some.

With graceful and honest writing and an electric love story, this is a book about growing into your own skin. For fans of Perfect Chemistry, Sarah Dessen, and John Green.

Review:

First, I’d like to thank The Keeper for letting me drop by and post a couple of guest reviews on both her blogs.  Thank You!  Now moving on to Kiss Crush Collide….

I was very excited when Kiss Crush Collide arrived in my mailbox.  It’s been toted as a love story from the very beginning, from the cover, to the title, to the synopsis, to the authors and books that it’s being compared too.  The very unfortunate thing about this situation was…that all that information was pretty misleading and I was VERY disappointed to find out that there really wasn’t much romance at all.

I didn’t feel that the book was actually about the characters, Leah and Duffy, themselves.  The fact that their relationship is what the book is being sold on and I felt that there wasn’t really anything going on in the book (chemistry, dialogue, etc.) to build their relationship on left me very frustrated and unhappy.

I did like the premise of the book and the basic idea of the book, it just needed a little more development for my liking. Our main character Leah is the last of three very successful sisters and she feels like she doesn’t even fit in with her own family.  She doesn’t want to be like the rest of her family, she wants to be her own person. Which I liked.

Overall, I thought that this book came with some pretty high expectations and it didn’t really live up to them.  If you’re looking for a romance, skip this book but if you’re looking for something that is a quick read that is chock full of drama and turmoil pick this one up.

The last thing Jenna Riley needs is more sports in her life. While her brothers are off being athletic superstars, she’s stuck running the family’s sports bar, whether she likes it or not. Then in walks pro hockey stud Tyler Anderson. As much as Jenna would like to go to the boards with him, she’s vowed to never fall for a jock—even one as hot as Ty.

Ty, intrigued by the beautiful bar owner, becomes a regular. He senses that Jenna wants to do something more with her life. And as he gains her trust, the passion between them grows, as does Ty’s insistence that Jenna should start living for herself. With his encouragement, Jenna starts to believe it, too…

But first, Jenna has to figure out what she wants, what she needs, who she loves, and if she has the passion and pride to take a shot at having it all—including Ty…

Cowboy Casanova (Rough Riders, #12)

His rough touch makes her lose control…

In Sundance, Wyoming, you can’t throw a boot without hitting a McKay cowboy, so Ben McKay is used to fading into the background. Except on weekends, when he’s Bennett, imposing Dom at The Rawhide Club, surrounded by a bevy of female subs eager for the attention of his long…whip.

As for the curvy brunette eying him from across the room? He’ll eat his Stetson if she’s the experienced Domme she claims to be. Bennett offers her a deal—he’ll let her call the shots for one night. But the next night he gets to prove to her how freeing it’ll be when he takes the reins.

Ainsley Hamilton is amazed by how well Bennett read her every secret yearning during that one explosive weekend—and she’s stunned when they come face to face in their everyday lives as rancher and new bank president. Now Ben’s urging her to explore her submissive side outside the club, and there’s something in his commanding gaze that makes it too easy to let him take control—of her desires and her pleasure.

Can Ben help Ainsley overcome her fear that a relationship built on dark sexual appetites won’t survive the light of day?

A Perfect Storm (Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor, #4)

He never saw her coming…

Spencer Lark already knows too many secrets about Arizona Storm, including the nightmare she survived and her resulting trust issues. But in order to expose a smuggling ring—and continue avenging his own tragic past—the bounty hunter reluctantly agrees to make Arizona a decoy. Yet nothing has equipped him for her hypnotic blend of fragility and bravery, or for the protective instincts she stirs in him.

Arizona wants to reclaim her life, which means acting as bait to lure the enemy into a trap. Sure it’s dangerous, especially with a partner as distractingly appealing as Spencer. But as their plan—and their chemistry—shifts into high gear, Arizona may discover there’s an even greater risk in surrendering her heart to a hero…

Redwood Bend (Virgin River, #18)

CAN CHANGING A TIRE CHANGE YOUR LIFE?
